This turn-based RPG, set in a Belle Époque-inspired world, has captivated players with its unique art style and emotionally charged narrative. The game has sold over two million copies within weeks of its release, highlighting the potential of indie developers in delivering high-quality gaming experiences.

Doom: The Dark Ages
id Software's latest installment in the Doom franchise, Doom: The Dark Ages, transports players to a medieval setting, offering a fresh take on the classic first-person shooter. Released on May 15, the game has received "generally favorable" reviews, with critics praising its heavy, grounded combat and immersive atmosphere.

Elden Ring: Nightreign
FromSoftware is set to release Elden Ring: Nightreign on May 30. This cooperative spinoff introduces a roguelike structure, allowing teams of three players to explore a procedurally generated world over three in-game days. The game aims to offer a fresh experience while retaining the challenging gameplay the studio is known for.

Stellar Blade
Originally a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Stellar Blade is making its way to PC, featuring enhanced visuals, new character outfits, and additional boss battles. The PC release aims to reach a broader audience and provide an enriched gaming experience.

MechWarrior 5: Clans – Ghost Bear: Flash Storm
The latest expansion for MechWarrior 5 offers players an extensive new campaign, introducing eight new pilotable mechs and 12 missions. Priced at $20, the DLC has been well-received for its rich, action-filled content.

FragPunk
FragPunk, a free-to-play hero shooter developed by Bad Guitar Studio, has expanded its reach to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game features a unique shard card system, adding strategic depth to its fast-paced multiplayer matches.

Blades of Fire
Developed by MercurySteam, known for Metroid Dread, Blades of Fire is set to release on May 22. This dark fantasy action-adventure game emphasizes deliberate combat and weapon reputation systems, offering a unique gameplay experience.

Mario Kart World
Nintendo has announced Mario Kart World as a launch title for the upcoming Switch 2. The game introduces 24-player races, open-world exploration, and reimagined classic tracks, promising a fresh take on the beloved racing series.

Industry Shifts and Delays

The delay of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 2026 has created opportunities for other publishers to fill the fall 2025 release window. Electronic Arts has announced a new Battlefield title, while Take-Two plans to release Mafia: The Old Country during the same period. These strategic moves aim to capitalize on the absence of the highly anticipated GTA VI.

Additionally, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, featuring Captain America and Black Panther, has been delayed to early 2026. The developers at Skydance Games cite the need for additional time to polish the game and ensure a top-tier player experience.

May 2025 has demonstrated the gaming industry's resilience and creativity, offering players a diverse array of experiences across genres and platforms. As the year progresses, gamers can look forward to more innovative titles and developments in the ever-evolving world of video games.
